Mettre la table by Tour de Rôle

From 19 April, the Art-image exhibition centre will be welcoming Frédérique Larivée Levesque and Dominic Bachand, two up-and-coming artists from Gatineau who form the Tour de Rôle collective. In the gallery, Mettre la table is a space that evokes the codes of hospitality through visual elements inspired by the restaurant and, more specifically, the bar.

Through research and practice, Frédérique Larivée Levesque and Dominic Bachand reflect on collective practices as a means of resistance. So how, through cooperation, can artists imagine new models and strategies for rethinking the work of art from a perspective of solidarity and sustainability? The duo's work is a reflection on the way in which different places or spaces in everyday life can encourage or spark collective action. In recent years, the collective has developed an aesthetic around the bar. The bar as a place that situates, supports and deploys community encounters and exchanges. In this way, the space of the bar becomes a stable material base, predictable and known, but not instituted. It becomes a gathering point through which we take care to situate collective thought experiments. Tour de Rôle's collective practice proposes spaces for exchange and dialogue as methods of research-creation that are geared towards an ecology of 'doing', and in which social relationships are harnessed within artistic activity.

The vernissage will take place in the presence of the artists on Friday 19 April from 6 to 8 pm.

Complimentary wine and beer will be served, as well as a cocktail specially designed for the event.

The exhibition Mettre la table runs until June 2, 2024.

There will also be a round-table discussion with the artists on 28 May at 6 pm.

The Art-image exhibition centre is located inside the Maison de la culture de Gatineau. There is free parking at the back of the building. The site is also accessible by bus on STO routes 63/67/71/73/75/87.
