By Michel Jean, read by Dominique Pétin, directed by Michel Poirier. Published in 2019, Kukum won the Prix littéraire France-Québec and is one of the most successful Quebec literary works of recent years. It tells the story of Almanda Siméon, a Quebec orphan who shares the nomadic life of the Pekuakami Innu after falling in love with a young Aboriginal man. Along the way, she breaks down some of the barriers imposed on Aboriginal women. Author Michel Jean is a direct descendant of Almanda Siméon. Born to a Huron-Wendat mother from the Wendake reserve and a father of French origin, Dominique Pétin first broke through as an actress, but she is also a jazz singer. Since 1990, she has appeared regularly on screen and on stage. In the theatre, she was part of the cast of Alexis Martin's trilogy L'histoire révélée du Canada français, 1608 à 1998. Between 2014 and 2018, she made a string of memorable appearances in the following productions: Testament by Éric Jean, Le pain et le vin by Alexis Martin, Coco Chatel by Carl Ritchie, Le Wild West Show by Mani Soleymanlou, Camilien Houde "Le p'tit gars de Sainte-Marie" and Alpha et Oméga by Christian Vanasse, Daniel Brière and Alexis Martin. Since 2022, Dominique has graced the stages of almost every major theatre in the country, thanks to Lorraine Pintal's Un ennemi du Peuple, Mani Soleymanlou's 1, 2, 3, and the staged readings of Kukum, produced by Martin Lecours. Her film credits include Léa Pool's Et au pire, on se mariera, Louise Archambault's Gabrielle and Stéphane Lafleur's En terrains connus. In 2019, Dominique will join the cast of Caroline Monnet's Bootlegger. Her television credits include Destinées, L'auberge du chien noir Victor Lessard, 30 vies, Unité 9, Subito texto, Ruptures, Mon Fils and Nous. In 2021, Dominique starred as the main character in Sonia Bonspille Boileau's series Pour toi flora. In 2006, she received the Masque for Best Actress - Supporting Role in the play Wit (presented at the Théâtre de Quat'Sous) and in 1997 the Gémeaux Award for Best Actress for the role of Lyne in Sous un ciel variable. As an actress, she has a great love of creative work in the theatre, particularly with the Nouveau Théâtre Expérimental. She has also worked for many years with the National Theatre School, selecting candidates and coaching actors.

The performance is made possible by the Quebec government's Plan de relance économique du milieu culturel.
