Sonates du mystère I
Pre-concert talk by Johanne Couture
This marks the beginning of a major project consisting of three concerts in which the musicians will perform the complete Rosary Sonatas—also known as the Mystery Sonatas—by Heinrich Ignaz Franz Biber. These iconic sonatas were composed outside a religious context and depict moments in the life of Christ. Transposed into a contemporary context, these sonatas still resonate with the rhythm of human life and invite meditation. They are a masterpiece of violin artistry.
To accompany this ambitious project and highlight the work’s contemporary relevance, fifteen short vocal compositions will be premiered during the project. Additionally, visual artist Jean-François Provost will create a triptych, depicting each of the mysteries from a highly contemporary perspective.
