Birds of a Feather” by Olga Kay-Grigoriev

Galerie Old Chelsea is pleased to present a solo exhibition of wood sculptures by Olga Kay-Grigoriev, one of the gallery’s ten owners.  Fascinated by crows and other birds, she has dedicated her solo exhibition, titled “Birds of a Feather,” to them. Her collection, described as “rustic yet elegant,” celebrates the charm and natural beauty of wood through relief sculptures, freestanding figures, and unique wall compositions.

The wood Olga uses come from fallen trees on her property in the Gatineau Hills, the place she considers her home. Her work draws inspiration from the journey of life itself: love and loss, joy and sadness, as well as all the stories that intertwine within it. Animals, people, and natural elements are recurring themes in her sculptures, with each piece reflecting a subtle dialogue between memory, material, and imagination. 

For Olga, sculpture is both deeply fulfilling and invigorating - it offers the challenge and risk that keep the creative process alive and captivating.  She is drawn to this material for its warmth and the multitude of sensations it evokes—qualities that only nature can offer. Working with wood provides Olga with a uniquely rich experience.

Olga further developed her craft by taking sculpture classes in Florence, Italy, as well as life drawing classes at the Ottawa School of Art. Today, she continues to bring her knowledge to life through a process of playful experimentation and discovery. Her sculptures now find a home in houses and gardens across many communities, bringing warmth, character, and meaning to the spaces they occupy.
