We invite you to attend the exhibition opening on Thursday, March 28, 2024, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., in the agora of Maison du Citoyen, located at 25, rue Laurier in Gatineau.

Admission is free.

Paula Murray's use of ceramic materials and processes speaks to our response to the world around us. Her process results in forms, surface tensions and colors whose beauty elicits a visceral understanding of the artwork.

In addition to a collection of porcelain vessels, she invites you to collaborate in the creation of Mes Mains, Mon Cœur: each time unique, your imprint, left on a ball of clay, will be matched with those of other visitors so that we can see how, together, we can create a unique work, beautiful in its diversity and united in its purpose, thus contributing to the advent of a better world.

Biography

Born in Ottawa, Paula Murray studied science at the University of Ottawa, ceramics at Sheridan College and completed two residencies at the Banff Centre before embarking on a successful artistic career. Her work has earned her several creation grants from the Canada Council for the Arts and the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec. She was elected to the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts and, in 2006, to the International Academy of Ceramics in 2017.

The artist has lived in Gatineau Park since 1980. Her practice is inspired by her deep relationship with nature and the years spent navigating between Canada and South America to raise her two children. Her discovery of the Baha'i faith and ongoing study of spiritual writings inspire many of the themes explored in her work.

Paula Murray creates objects and installations.

She exhibits nationally and internationally, and has received awards and honorable mentions in prestigious exhibitions in Canada, Italy, France, China, Korea, Taiwan, Japan, Portugal, Romania and the United States. Her public art commissions include "Nautilus", a suspended porcelain sculpture for Ottawa City Hall. Her work can be found in prestigious public collections such as the World Korean Ceramic Foundation Museum, the Yingge Ceramic Museum in Taiwan, the Museum of Ceramics in Faenza, Italy, Canada House in London, UK, and, in Canada, the Gardiner Museum, the Canadian Museum of History and the Art Bank of Canada.

The exhibition "Mes Mains, Mon Coeur" by artist Paula Murray will be presented at Galerie Montcalm, from March 28 to May 19, 2024.
