The warning has been issued; the hurricane is approaching—a promise of renewal, and a much-needed one at that. Rosie and Christophe are two people whom time has broken. Clinging to one another, they try to forge a life for themselves amid the twists and turns of a past marked by abuse and fear. When the past comes knocking at their door, they are forced to become the “island couple,” the sole occupants of the derelict International Space Station stranded at the farthest point from any landmass. Taking refuge in their bathtub as the cyclone rages outside, they try to rewrite the past. Is it really possible to forget everything? Yet, one must know that the ocean always spits out its dead; it is the undertow, the eternal beginning. Point Nemo takes place in the bathroom of the couple’s apartment. There, these two characters will create an entire universe to protect themselves from the reality of the outside world; Rosie will lead Christophe into this game to shield him from memories he seems to have completely forgotten. For her part, she finds herself possessed by the cyclone, that force of nature she so desperately wishes she could emulate. Symbols, imagination, and dreams weave together a much broader tapestry of life.

Point Nemo is a mainstream play that explores the quest to rebuild one’s identity in the wake of physical and sexual trauma, using a symbolic world that navigates between dreams, memories, hope, and reality.
