At the end of their week-long residency in our studio, Catherine Lavoie-Marcus and Michael Baker will present an extract from their work in progress, entitled 'Mare résiduelle / Tidal Pool'.
In the centre of rock cavities, micro-organisms and plants find themselves trapped after the passage of a tide. They rub shoulders, amalgamate and marry in the brief time of a residual pool. Then a wave returns, dismantling the habitat and creating a new one. In homage to these temporary geological formations, small temples of impermanence, Michael Baker and Catherine Lavoie-Marcus have imagined a performative space where sensations cohabit and perpetually reorganise themselves. The synesthetic device they animate is a poem for four hands that fuses gesture, touch, sound and projected shadow.
