TARTUFFE

A Fâcheux Théâtre production, part of the "Molière in the Park" program.

SYNOPSIS

Orgon, a wealthy bourgeois, lives in a large house with his two children, his second wife Elmire and their servant Dorine. Raised by an extremely religious mother and himself a believer, Orgon finds it hard to reconcile his mother's rigid, dogmatic upbringing with the more liberal mores of the rest of his family. Then Tartuffe arrives: a needy man and fervent Christian (at least on the surface), Orgon welcomes him into his home to act as a spiritual guide and preach the "good word" to him and his family. Will Tartuffe be able to solve the family's problems? Or will he create new ones?

Written in alexandrines by Molière, this version has been adapted into prose by Sylvain Sabatié to reflect the social issues of our time.
