Kobo Town

Named after the historic neighborhood of Port-of-Spain, Trinidad, where calypso was born, Kobo Town has been described as “an intoxicating blend of polished calypsonian spirit, dancehall reggae, and heavy brass” (Guardian).

Since its inception in 2005, the Toronto-based band has brought its calypso sound and ska inspiration to audiences around the world.

Winners of the 2018 JUNO Award for World Music Album of the Year, Kobo Town is led by songwriter, singer, and multi-instrumentalist Drew Gonsalves.

Their music has been covered by numerous other artists, including Carlos Santana, Manu Chao, and Calypso Rose. At once haunting and joyful, intensely poetic and highly danceable, the band's songs are rooted in the rich tradition of Caribbean musical storytelling and delivered with an indomitable energy that has had audiences from Montreal to Malaysia and Havana to Berlin jumping to their feet.
