Être ou ne pas être un douchebag
PERFORMING ARTS: THEATER
A Les Hébertistes production
Cast: Mary-Lee Picknell and Vincent Paquette
He loves to party and smoke joints. She’s been sober for 10 years and is all about personal growth. He’s barely 30; she’s turning 40. Stuck together in a 1.5-square-meter elevator, Karine and Malik can no longer ignore each other. Nor can they pretend they’ve never seen each other naked. For these two polar opposites share a common past, a history they will revisit only to discover that their versions of the story are not at all the same. As they search for ways to pass the time and ease the awkwardness, the former lovers will try to reconcile the irreconcilable, impatiently awaiting their release…
A frankly funny and touching closed-door drama, To Be or Not to Be a Douchebag explores interpersonal relationships and the vast spectrum between love and one-night stands, all with irony and a healthy dose of bad faith! Author and actress Mary-Lee Picknell offers a fresh take on the theme of male-female relationships, subtly reversing the traditional power dynamic. Witnessing this unlikely reunion, the audience becomes a voyeur of this forced, world-cut-off tête-à-tête that is as comical as it is revealing.
Suitable for all ages 14 and up. The performance will be followed by a Q&A session between the audience and the artists, moderated by Les Voyagements.
This performance is presented in co-production with Alliance Française Ottawa and in partnership with Les Voyagements, a touring experimental theater company.
