CRÉATION[TIRET]RECHERCHE
On 7 September, the Art-image exhibition centre is delighted to welcome artist-curators Jérémie Roussell and Jessica Ragazzini with their exhibition Création[tiret]recherche. The latter proposes a variant that expresses a claimed detachment from the political weight of its referent, research-creation in academia. Devoting itself to a critique of the imposition of the epistemic aims of science, 2J2R produces a laboratory[dash]exhibition that confronts the [co]construction of creative knowledge with official knowledge, by becoming a dialectical, experimental and fertile concretisation rather than a speculative, singular and conventional theorisation.
The duo invites us to reflect on the relationships between practices and theories, whose exchanges are the only way to go beyond the conceptual delimitations of research for, by or about creation through their combinations.
The curatorial research on practice initially led to a hybridisation of the artist's and researcher's positions. Its external perspective has made it possible to suspend the limits of artistic formalities, with research and exhibition no longer seen as mere outcomes. In the form of research for creation, the in situ and immersive graphic appropriation of the façade that unites the cultural space and the library, then aims to stimulate institutional and inter-partner flexibility. In concrete terms, the curator's alteration of the visual becomes a context for freeing ourselves from distinct nomenclatures. In this way, the aims of the research are seen as a creative process, for which joint writing strategies become the medium. Finally, this research through creation promotes the cross-fertilisation of knowledge by breaking down the boundaries between artistic production and documentation. The authors read, their interpretations and the words of 2J2R are diluted so as to enrich the critical examination of the norms that impoverish the [re]presentation modes of creative research.

About the curators :
The Hull duo 2J2R (Jérémie Roussel and Jessica Ragazzini) reflect on the interstices between exploration and purpose, between autocratic discourse and ongoing dialogue, between scientific objectification and the subjectification of research through creation. By hybridising their postures, they aim to subvert power dynamics with a view to dismantling institutional conventions.
In 2023, the duo were invited to speak at the Thèse en création, interprétation ou conception : un objet complexe study day (Grazia Giacco, Université de Strasbourg/ Chiara Palermo, Université La Sorbonne Nouvelle). He presented new explorations at a collective event at Voix Visuelles and took part in AXENÉO7's XL exhibition.
The vernissage will be held in the presence of artist-curators Jérémie Roussel and Jessica Ragazzini on Thursday 7 September from 6 to 8 pm.
Complimentary wine and beer will be served.
CRÉATION[TIRET]RECHERCHE runs until 29 October 2023.
The Art-image exhibition centre is located inside the Maison de la culture de Gatineau. Free parking is available at the back of the building. It is also accessible by bus on STO routes 63/67/71/73/75/87.
About the location
Art-image et espace Odyssée
The Centre d'exposition Art-image and the Odyssée space at the Maison de la culture de Gatineau are two exhibition spaces whose mandate is to disseminate current and contemporary art in order to increase public awareness and appreciation of these practices. Both spaces present exhibitions by professional artists. These artists come from the region, the province and the country. Once a year, the Émergence programme gives young artists from the Federal Capital Region the opportunity to exhibit their work in a professional environment.
