Speaker: Michel Prévost, D.U., President of the Société d'histoire de l'Outaouais

Come and discover the listed Fairview House, home of the Musée régional de l'Outaouais, and the magnificent Fairview Estate. Come and see the architectural features of the superb Italianate-style stone house built in 1862-1863. This exceptional residence is one of the few in the Outaouais to have preserved its wooded setting.

The talk will focus on the estate's first owner, Sir Richard William Scott, an important figure who played a significant role in Queen Victoria and her advisors' choice of Ottawa as the capital of the United Province of Canada in 1857. You'll also discover the history of the Institut de recherches vétérinaires building, now sadly abandoned. A short guided tour of the residence will be offered after the lecture for those interested.

Michel Prévost has been interested in the region's history and heritage for 45 years. He has been president of the Société d'histoire de l'Outaouais since 1997. He was Chief Archivist of the University of Ottawa from 1990 to 2017. Michel holds a master's degree in history from the University of Ottawa. In 2015, Saint Paul University awarded him an honorary doctorate for his outstanding commitment to heritage.
