SEWÂTSIWIN: THEY ARE SACRED by Kim O’Bomsawin

Canada (Quebec). 2025. 75 min. Documentary. (G)

Original English version with French subtitles

In Indigenous traditions, differences were not viewed as a disability, but rather as a strength that benefited the entire community. This was true for people with autism, who were considered to possess unique gifts and a connection to the spirit world. Through intimate encounters with Anders, SEWÂTSIWIN: THEY ARE SACRED gives viewers unique access to the world of an autistic child and allows them to follow the journey of his father, who is dedicated to bringing traditional First Nations perspectives into our contemporary world.

» (Sarah-Louise Pelletier-Morin, Le Devoir) ★★★★
