Briga - Familia
Series: Aux mardis du monde
Briga is a Montreal-based Canadian singer-songwriter, composer and multi-instrumentalist, born of a Quebec mother and Polish father. At once simple and colorful, traditional and crossbred, her music is a blend of Turbo Folk and Balkan and Maghrebian grooves.
BIO: Inspired by the sounds of Eastern Europe, Briga's previous projects (Diaspora, Turbo Folk Stories, Wake, Femme et Territoire) have thrilled Canada, the U.S. and Europe. The sixth album Familia (September 18, 2024) features her original compositions, plus four tracks co-written with the band's musicians: “La Fête” (with her percussionist Tacfarinas Kichou), the first single released in November 2023, and “L'Amicale” (with her bassist Antoine Pelegrin).
Over the course of her past albums, she has been nominated for a JUNO award in 2018, and several ADISQ and Canadian Folk Music Award nominations. She has also been the recipient of a Galaxie Star Award. In the past, this multi-disciplinary artist joined the ranks of the Ratchet Orchestra as violinist, on the album Hemlock, released in 2011 and nominated for a JUNO in 2013, in the Instrumental Album of the Year category. Briga, whose real name is Brigitte Dajczer, also contributed to the soundtrack of MOM, a psychological thriller starring Emily Hampshire, and the NFB feature À pleine voix.
Here are two great reviews:
- “Briga is a Montreal artist who composes original, fascinating, eclectic, and biting music...with a Balkan flavor.” - New York Music Daily
- “With her, it's often all about duality...At once maudlin and delicate, she now plays more between the notes, creating open music with the violin...It's sung, funky, improvised, intimate or biting, a tad free, dirty, retro and very good.” - Le Devoir, Montreal
