A Special Group Show by La Lanterne

Vernissage: Saturday February 3, 2 to 4:30pm

Galerie Old Chelsea is delighted to host the exhibition by La Lanterne, an organization whose mission is to help people living with intellectual disabilities realize their value as people. The group hired an art teacher to work with these budding artists to teach them a variety of methods and to encourage them to experiment with different styles.   The results are striking.

Ginette Marcoux, the Centre’s Director, has noticed that participating in artistic activities has boosted their confidence and self-esteem.  They feel a sense of accomplishment and pride.  It has also Improved their concentration, fine motor skills and coordination, and in addition, improved their ability to communicate and socialize with others.

Participants at La Lanterne are adults aged 18 and over residing in the MRC des Collines.

Thanks to a grant from the Quebec Ministère de la Culture et des Communications, 12 participants were given the opportunity to experiment with different painting styles on canvas at the day centre in La Pêche.

The artists have produced some rather impressive pieces and we encourage everyone to drop by the Galerie to see their blossoming talent.

Galerie Old Chelsea, which features local artists, is located in the beautiful Gatineau Hills above award-winning Les Fougères restaurant situated at 783 route 105, Chelsea, Québec, J9B1P1.
