This course will introduce you and help you refine to the creation of patterns in your artwork, giving your pieces a strong, enduring identity. The content focuses on 2D works (canvas, paper, wood panels, etc.). It is designed for anyone with a background in art who wishes to explore new approaches to their practice.
Session structure:
- 3 sessions of 3 hours covering theory and technique demonstrations, followed by guided and/or independent practice.
- Two 6-hour sessions of guided practice on a personal project
Course 1 will develop the following notions: Material, Composition, Pattern balance, Texture.
Course 2 will develop the following notions: Colour, Colour Balance (60%, 30%, 10%), Choice of colours, Contrast,, Mouvement.
Course 3 will develop the following notions: Symbolism, Choosing a subject.
Courses 4 and 5 you will work on a piece of art which incorporates the notions you have learned in the past 3 sessions.
The instructor: Thomas D’Aoust (Toda) is a graphist, illustrator and a passionate artist. Holding a college diploma in graphic design, he brings nearly 20 years of experience to his work. He has participated in over fifteen exhibitions and competitions. His work has earned him several awards, notably for the European Union Film Festival poster and the Hot Air Balloon Festival’s STO Graffiti contest.
