Renard Doux

Renard Doux is a paper object theater show, conceived and performed by Sylvie Gosselin. It highlights the importance of intergenerational relationships and the mutual legacy between a child, Renard Doux, and her Mamou. It tells the story of a special moment, both tender and playful, between two friends of different ages, played by a single actress. Filled with humor and creativity, this intimate show offers young and old alike an experience that captures and reaches the heart.

BIO :

An actress and visual artist, Sylvie Gosselin grew up in Gatineau before graduating from the Conservatoire d'art dramatique de Montréal (1977). She has appeared on stages across Canada and on television (Le temps d'une paix, Passe-Partout). For young audiences, she has performed with Théâtre Bouches Décousues, Théâtre de Quartier and Théâtre Le Clou. With a bachelor's degree in visual arts from UQAM (2000), she has exhibited her work in various galleries, art centers and Maisons de la Culture in Montreal: Suites textile-Petites formes (2002), Je voudrais m'envoler mais je pèse des tonnes (2006), MÉMORIAL-suites lumineuses (2008-2011) and, finally, Cheminer entre le théâtre et les art visuels (2022-2025).

For over twenty years, she has been fusing her two artistic sensibilities to create original theatrical proposals: La couturière (2004), conceived with Jasmine Dubé, is a theatrical journey that she has performed over 300 times in Quebec, Canada and Europe. Contes Arbour (2013) is a show about the importance of legacy and the cycle of life. Histoires d'ailes et d'échelles (2018), is an immersive ambulatory inspired by the work of Paul Klee. And, in 2023, Renard Doux, a paper object theater that recounts the intergenerational relationship between a child and her Mamou. At the same time, she designs and gives mediation workshops for children and adults, in connection with her exhibitions and shows.

Her commitment to theater is ever-present in her visual work. Each work is a universe in itself, a miniature theater of characters, words, shapes, colors and light. In her theatrical creations, conceived from her visual artifacts, the themes revolve around memory, transmission and the power of art and imagination. With her set designs, composed of paintings, drawings, assemblages of salvaged objects and installations, she tells stories to reach out and capture the hearts of audiences young and old.
