Réalisme Lyrique

The Centre d'exposition Napoléon-Bourassa is pleased to announce the opening of the exhibition Lyrical Realism, by artist Denise Vaillancourt (Saint-André-Avellin), presented from June 7 to August 10, 2025.
This groundbreaking exhibition reveals a bold artistic approach, where the intimate meets the imaginary. Through a process of creative transformation, Denise Vaillancourt draws on her earlier works - sketches, fragments, unfinished essays - to compose a new series of collages, veritable metaphors for renewal and artistic freedom.
“I'm going out to meet this singular voice of mine,” explains Denise Vaillancourt, whose exhibition marks a turning point in her practice. Driven by a desire for authenticity and a need to free herself from convention, she offers a lyrical realism that interweaves pictorial memory, discreet humor and a commitment to creative freedom from aesthetic shackles. While creating new works, the artist revisits her own production to better transform it. Her compositions, vibrant with color, become spaces of freedom where ancient landscapes become birds and bouquets of yesteryear, imaginary creatures.
In this way, the artist illustrates his profound conviction that, in painting as in chemistry, “nothing is lost, nothing is created, everything is transformed”. Let's savor the richness of all that transforms...
