Pottery Barell Firing
For more details, visit Muraï Céramique's website: www.muraiceramique.com
On the first 2 days: October 4 & 5 (10am-4pm), Marie will help the participants to explore handbuilding techniques to make small pieces that will be fired two weeks later. We will learn how to decorate and burnish pieces to get the maximum smoking effects. We will talk about the burning materials we need to gather for the firing.
On the second weekend: October 18 (10am-4pm) & October 19 (1-4pm), we will welcome Diana to prepare for the barrel firing. We will talk about the burning materials and their effects on the pieces. We will learn how to wrap the ceramics in the burning materials, how to load the barrel and fire it. The day after, we will take the time to slowly unload the barrel and analyse the results. We will see how to seal the surface of the piece the get brighter colours and more durability.
This workshop includes all the materials, but participants will be invited to bring things they have at home for the firing (banana peels, coffee grounds, seaweed, magazines, etc). Note the pieces we will create are not for food usage, but are only decorative.
Open to all levels of experience.
