FRANCIS FAUBERT IN CONCERT

After two albums, a solo EP and an EP with garage-rock duo Grand Fanal, Francis Faubert returns with Je sais pas pourquoi tu m'aimes.

On this album, Faubert presents more refined songs that came to him en bloc, like a gift, synthesizing several years of wandering, joy, suffering, questioning and realizations: “I took inventory of the times I was wrong. When I should have kept my mouth shut or spoken up.” A little brighter than on the previous album Maniwaki, these new songs deal with sometimes heavy and difficult subjects: parental alienation, separation, small inner revolutions. Others express a state of letting go, relativizing our problems in the face of the grandeur and beauty of the world: “Quand on check les étoiles, c'est vrai, on n'est pas grand' chose.” Here, Faubert maintains his abrasive, self-deprecating point of view.

But this time, his outlook is a little more nuanced and optimistic, suggesting that, at last, the light will come, that it's not far off.
