Documentary Screenings: Truth, Reconciliation and Identity

As part of our Truth and Reconciliation Weekend, La Fab Ciné-Club presents two documentaries about the complexities of reconciling Indigenous truth and identity.

“Last Call Indien” explores the reality that faces a last generation status Indian as she contemplates her life and possible loss of her links to Aboriginal culture after the death of her Mohawk Grand-father. This heartwarming documentary not only addresses cultural identity, but also provides a critical analysis of First Nations rights in Canada and the dilemma faced by many last-generation Indigenous people.

“A Scattered Identity” is a beautiful story of an Indigenous woman whose identity was withheld from her until well into adulthood. After discovering at age 40 that she is Indigenous—not Mexican as she was raised to believe—Jane Dawson embarks on a transformative journey between Toronto, Betsiamites, and Mexico.
