Conférence : Le fauteuil de l'orateur Alexandre Taché
Lecture by Patricia Forget
In 2019, UQO had in mind an expansion project that would have resulted in the relocation of the Fauteuil de l'Orateur Alexandre Taché.
This was an opportunity for the people in charge of institutional heritage to gather documentation, make enquiries and carry out research with UQO employees, the Quebec National Assembly and the Société d'histoire de Saint-Romuald.
In February 2020, the Alexandre-Taché orator's chair was transported to Toronto in the capable hands of Mr. Greg Kelley, a curator-restorer specializing in furniture.
This research and restoration work enabled us to :
Rediscover an important political figure and his family's attachment to our region.
Discover the ancient tradition of the Fauteuil de l'orateur, particularly that of the Legislative Assembly.
And highlight the state's patronage of the art of Quebec woodcarving.
Our heritage is alive and kicking when we question it, reanalyze it, reappropriate it with new eyes: it reveals itself.
