Celle qui marche loin
Ombres Folles and RoiZIZO théâtre (France-Québec coproduction)
Marie meets Pierre in Saint-Louis in 1808. She was born Sioux-Iowa. He was born Sioux-French. Raised as nomads, they have all the qualities needed for adventure: curiosity, courage and the ability to speak several languages.
In the early 19th century, Marie and Pierre live in an America that France has just abandoned, that England is defending tooth and nail, and that the many indigenous peoples are seeing change, often for the worse... It's the beginning of globalization, the height of the fur trade and the opening up of the West!
Marie, Pierre and their two young children embark on an expedition that will cross America from east to west. The journey is dangerous and ambitious... but little did Marie know that she would have to cross the Rocky Mountains three times, in increasingly difficult conditions!
Marie is a traveler, a builder. Yet she and her culture have been forgotten. Excluded from all the history books, along with so many other women, Aboriginal, white and Métis. With our show, we hope to give her, and all the women who built America, back their value, their history, and above all, recognize their incredible courage.
Celle qui marche loin is a co-production of Ombres Folles (Quebec) and RoiZIZO théâtre (France). Created in 2019, this object theater show premiered in the official programs of the Festival mondial des théâtres de marionnettes de Charleville-Mézières and the Festival international des arts de la marionnette à Saguenay (FIAMS), before touring Quebec and France, stopping at the Maison Théâtre, the Théâtre jeunesse Les Gros Becs, the Théâtre Mouffetard (Paris) and the Festival RéciDives (Normandy).
QUOTES:
“We can only applaud the work of the two compères, who, in a way that is as playful as it is exciting, interest us in characters that great History has cast aside.” - David Lefebvre, montheatre.qc.ca, July 26, 2019
"A powerful story, carried by apt images and two committed, complicit performers. [...] A lovely moment of theater, rich in emotion, which, beneath the surface of the pleasure experienced, leaves a sobering shudder, a reverence for the fragility of existence and the exceptional courage of anonymous people who will never be the heroes celebrated by History." Mathieu Dochtermann, Toute la culture, September 6, 2019
"By turns narrators and characters, Maude Gareau and Gildwen Peronno play with one foot in the past and the other in the present, with a complicity that brings a whole world to life. They juggle references and anachronisms, question cultural blending, shake up identitarian withdrawal and encourage the audience to do the same. [...] And when this road movie - on horseback and more often on foot - comes to an end, we want more." Maïa Bouteillet, Paris Mômes, July 11, 2022
"They captivate their audience in a tale where their two voices intertwine. With a good deal of humor and gaiety, they evoke, without pathos and without giving lessons, the universe that the indestructible Marie Iowa traversed in all directions. [...] You don't need special effects to make Celle qui marche loin a great show. Simply two creators teeming with ideas, able to convey them with great poetic force." Philippe Person, froggydelight.com, July 12, 2022
BIOS:
Ombres Folles defends a world driven by imagination, creating shows that awaken the fanciful spirit of young and old alike. Committed to the development of contemporary puppetry and theater for young audiences, the company explores genre crossovers between puppet, shadow and object theater, while probing our fears, foibles and taboos.
Founded in 2005, Ombres Folles has created 9 shows and given over 600 performances in Canada, South Korea, the United States, France, Serbia and Ukraine. Today, the company enjoys a solid reputation in the children's theater and puppetry worlds.
RoiZIZO théâtre was founded in Brittany in 2008. It takes its name from a revolutionary and poetic character featured in its first creation. Directed by Gildwen Peronno and Julien Galardon, the company creates shows combining theater, with or without words, and animated forms (puppets, object and shadow theater). Her project is marked by the desire to live a human, utopian and theatrical adventure. It is supported by the Morbihan department, Golfe du Morbihan Vannes Agglo and, depending on the project, by the Brittany Region and the Ministry of Culture - DRAC Bretagne.
